FAQ’s

This is one of our most frequently asked questions and the answer is not straight forward. The cost of each job depends on a large number of factors like the complexity of the job, equipment and staff needed to safely complete the work. Our Arborist will assess these factors during his site visit before giving free no-obligation quote.

Factors we will consider are:

1. Size of the Trees/Hedge
2. Access for the Tipper van/chipper
3. How far waste arisings will need to be carried to the chipper
4. Stump Removal required
5. Is the tree safe to climb or will a MEWP be needed
6. Dangers or obstructions i.e. power cables, public highway

Bird Nesting Season in the UK begins 1st March and runs to 31st July. However this is just a guideline and it should be assumed that birds may nest before and after these dates.

If any bird is nesting in a tree or hedge then it is legally protected, so long as the nest is in use.

The Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981 states that it is a criminal offence to damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird while it is in use or being built.

At J Mountford Tree Services Ltd, we fully support these laws and will carry out thorough inspections of all trees and hedges before any work is carried out during nesting season. This may result in work being postponed until all nesting birds have gone.

A Tree Preservation Order (TPO) is made by a local planning authority (usually the local council) to protect specific trees that make an impact on their local surroundings and are classed as important trees in the area. This prohibits deliberate damage and destruction to these protected trees.

A Conservation Area (CA) is an area of special architectural or historic interest. Trees which sit in these areas are considered worthy of preservation or enhancement.

Trees covered by a TPO/ CA cannot be pruned or felled without permission from the local council’s planning department.

J Mountford Tree Services Ltd will check if a tree is covered by a TPO/ CA once our quote has been accepted. We will apply to the local authority for permission to carry out the work. It usually takes up to 6 weeks from receiving he application to hear back.

Although insurance is not a legal requirement for tree surgeons, we believe that it is a vital policy to have in place. Insurance covers any damage done to a client or other persons property, or injury to a member of the public, as a direct result of our work.

At J Mountford Tree Services Ltd we have comprehensive insurance in place which covers up to £5million.

Our insurance documents can be shown on request.
